This is one of those extremely rare books that I will be recommending as a MUST READ book to every person who ever asks me... "What book would you recommend be on EVERY person's reading list?" If I could give it a gazillion stars, I would! Yes, it's that well written. This book will scare the livin' daylights out of you. For anyone living under the illusion that the world is a super safe place and that our governments are doing everything they can to keep us safe. This book will open your eyes to the reality of the real world."Biohazard" truly is a chilling TRUE tale of one man's life in the USSR who tells how he headed up the biological weapons program to kill off every person on the planet.. to kill off every plant that might grow.. to just kill. The diseases that they spliced together will leave me with nightmares for the rest of my life. The end is near.. and it will only take one madman or disaster to open this genie's bottle.A MUST READ. A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR EVERY BOOK SHELF IN THE WORLD!
Right from the horses mouth as it were. Here is a gentleman who has blown the whistle on the former USSR's biological and chemical warfare program, research, development, manufacturing and deployment. He was in a unique position to have an overview of what research and manufacturing was done where. He was directly involved in that research and the construction of facilities to do research or actually create weapons. The fact that the USSR was way ahead of the United States achievements in detection and prevention efforts, much less our own biological and chemical warfare development which of course we do not do, is frightening. Perhaps the most frightening thing is that since the breakup of the USSR many of it's satellite's have inherited the facilities and some of the scientist for the production and manufacture of biological and chemical weapons. Add too that the since the break up many of the scientists have sought and been sought out by other nations and groups world wide. This is a truly scary and frightening true story. I would suggest it be required reading for anyone involved in foreign affairs.
Very interesting book, doesn't improve my view of humanity. The depths of hell are brought to life under the pretext of protecting your country. Never mind that they are developing the omega man virus to wipe out all life. Only mankind can develop the most lethal diseases and this book tells how it's being done to this very day. I recommend reading this book, but be warned, it will damage your view of our species.
Excellent look behind the Soviet facade peering deeply into bioweaponeering. The writer demonstrates that the Soviet commitment to bioweapons was second to none. An excellent laymans description of various viruses and the process of weaponisation. The importance of these weapons to the Soviets is demonstrated by the fact that as many other state functions deteriorated or stopped, funding to bioweapons continued unabatedThere is an important by note the writer makes that should not be lost. As the Soviet system collapsed, it's viral stocks went unaccounted. Worse still, and of relevance today with regard to North Korea and Iran, the intellectual stock of scientists and researchers and their particular trade have been for sale to the highest bidder. One would be naive to think that the cumulative pool of knowledge has not fallen into the wrong hands. The writer also demonstrates the inherent weakness of weapons and facilities inspections.
Flat out scary. Made worse by the fact that it's true. It alludes to the fact that former Soviet scientists were hired by North Korea and other bad actors on the world stage. if these countries just have a little sample of the things developed by the Soviets, then we are all in big trouble. Especially now that you can get CRSPR.
This is the story of the Russian Bio weapons program. Wow! Very scary! But the US did it too. Some of the germs created are still circulating in the population, all over the world. Perhaps, the worst thing is that the US tested bioweapons on US citizens, in the US, without their knowledge, and most of us don't know a thing about it.
A little dry, but hey, he's a Russian scientist, not a novelist. Autobiographical stuff to hold the story together, but not too much to detract from the subject. Scary! Marburg, Ebola, Anthrax, Bubonic Plague, Botulism, Smallpox, various other bacteria, viruses, genetically engineered to be resistant to treatment drugs, all weaponized in an aerosol form and tested as payloads on missiles (poor monkeys). Look at the current natural Ebola outbreak in Africa with several countries and hundreds of victims now involved. Imagine an attack on a city where thousands would be infected in the initial attack, then hundreds of thousands dead before containment. The USSR and later Russia had a serious production line going, not just experiments. And the U.S. "experts" keep saying that it was is possible to achieve such a result. Maybe they just didn't want us to be afraid.
